One of my absolute favourite cocktails printed on to our Linen and cotton blend MARGOT T-shirt. After some research as to who and where the Negroni was first made, the most widely reported claim was that it was first mixed in 1919 at Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy. According to sources, it was concocted by a member of the Negroni family, who asked the bartender to strengthen the Americano by adding gin rather than soda water. The bartender then added the orange peel to signify it was a different drink (an Americano has lemon). One of the earliest reports of the cocktail came from Orson Welles, who was describing a new drink 'the Negroni' saying "the bitters are excellent for your liver but the gin is bad for you - they balance each other". Finally a margarita t-shirt. One of my most favourite cocktails - especially a 'Tommy' which is a spicy margarita. La Casa De Las Margaritas (The home of Margaritas)..... You know I love a bit of trivia behind a cocktail so ...... There are lots of stories around when, where and who invented the Margarita, but Mexico's official news agency and many experts say the strongest claim is that it was first mixed in Tommy's Place, a bar in Juárez on July 4th 1942 by Francisco 'Pancho' Morales. He later left bartending in Mexico to become a US citizen where he worked as a milkman for 25 years. So go grab a net of limes here's a recipe given to me by a bar man who made one of the best spicy margaritas I've had. 40ml cazcabel blanco tequila (or I use Olmeca Altos), 20ml cointreau, 30ml lime juice, a few dashes of tabasco (roughly 8-10) and 15ml agave syrup and shake. Drink while wearing this fabulous t-shirt! IMPORTANT INFO - This is now printed on the slouch fit drop shoulder tee which is the same cut as COSMO and the navy PARIS. I'll give you one guess what this refers to.... Yes, the infamous Long Island Iced Tea. After researching 2 different claims as to who and where it was invented, the strongest claim (and the one that would look nicest as a slogan) is it was made by Robert 'Rosebud' Butt at the Oak Beach Inn in Hamptons bay on Long Island as part of a cocktail making competition of which you had to include triple sec. The drink itself is made up of the following: 12.5ml each of vodka, gin, tequila, white rum, triple sec, sugar syrup, lemon juice, lime juice. Then top up with 60 ml of cola. So as my slogans revolve around the world of wine and cocktails, imagine my excitement as I was researching the history of a particular era and a cocktail named Purple Rain appeared! It was of course inspired by Prince (or at least the name was due to the grenadine gradually sinking through the blue curacao which invokes the imagery of rain), but the drink itself is a variation of the Long Island Iced Tea. Along with the blue curacao and grenadine (a nightmare if you spill it when wearing white!) it is then mixed with vodka, cranberry and lemonade. Pour over ice and finish with some fresh lime. The t-shirt itself is a classic easy to wear design and is the same tee I use for FIZZ and Bon Vintage retro. The lilac colour in the print is fresh and the shade purposely chosen to fit in with this seasons top colours. The gold is just fun and flashy.
